Training and Credentials

Dr. Jeffrey Tran began his academic journey at the University of Georgia, earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in 2016, and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine — one of the top ophthalmology training programs in the world. He began his residency in 2016 and has been in practice ever since, founding Stratus Eye in December 2022.

He is now involved in many ophthalmology societies, presenting at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Refractive Surgery, and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.

Why Ophthalmology?

Dr. Tran chose ophthalmology because it offered something rare in medicine — the ability to build long-term relationships with patients managing chronic conditions like glaucoma and diabetic eye disease, while also having the precision and immediacy of surgical intervention to restore sight. That balance of continuity and impact is what drives him every day at Stratus Eye.

As the only Vietnamese ophthalmologist in the greater Atlanta region, Dr. Tran has built a practice that welcomes patients from across Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama — many of whom travel specifically to see a physician who understands their background and communicates with both clinical precision and genuine warmth.

His Unique Approach to Care

Dr. Tran founded Stratus Eye in December 2022 on a simple belief: patients who understand their eyes make better decisions about their care. Every consultation at Stratus Eye is built around education first — which is why Dr. Tran spends personal time with every patient, why the two-hour consultation experience was designed the way it was, and why millions of people have watched his YouTube and TikTok videos explaining cataract surgery, lens options, and eye disease before they ever set foot in his office.

Unlike high-volume practices where patients rarely see the same physician twice, Dr. Tran is the only surgeon at Stratus Eye. The doctor you meet at your consultation is the doctor who operates on your eyes — and the doctor who follows you for years afterward.

BEYOND THE CLINIC

The same discipline that defines Dr. Tran's approach to medicine carries into every part of his life. He is an avid powerlifter having joined the 1000 pound club. He is also an avid endurance athlete who has completed multiple marathons, is currently training for his first half Ironman triathlon, and has set his sights on completing a full Ironman in 2027. He approaches physical training the way he approaches surgery — with precision, consistency, and a Type A commitment to pushing the human body to its full potential.

When he's not training or operating, Dr. Tran is an enthusiastic traveler with a particular love for Japan, a self-described foodie, and a devoted fan of BTS and Korean pop culture.

He is a proud father, and his family is the reason behind everything he builds.

Dr. Tran is proud to be a part of the 1000 pound club, and he is currently training for an Ironman 70.3 You'll see him running along the Chattahoochee River every weekend.
